Election fever grips Biratnagar metropolis

Three major parties — the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre — have intensified the election campaigning for the civic polls in Biratnagar Metropolitan City.

After prolonged internal discontent, the Nepali Congress has decided to field Bhim Parajuli, the UML has nominated Binod Dhakal for the mayoral post in the metropolis.

NC has given ticket to Indira Karaki for deputy mayor, while the UML has yet to finalise its candidate for the post.

The CPN-MC  had nominated Bhogendra Yadav and Namita Neupane for mayoral and deputy mayoral posts respectively, more than a month ago.

The UML has not picked its deputy mayoral candidate in accordance with its strategy to forge electoral alliance with another party. The Rastriya Prajatantra Party and the Federal Socialist Forum have nominated Prahald Sah and Umesh Yadav as mayoral candidates respectively.

In the metropolis, parties and their candidates have stepped up election campaigning. UML Biratnagar metropolis coordinator Sagar Thapa said his party had intensified campaigning to win the trust of the people. There are total 112,823 voters in the metropolis.
