Election officials to get air tickets on first priority

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has directed the bodies concerned to give first priority to employees assigned on election duty while issuing air tickets.

The EC issued this instruction after holding discussions with the Officiating Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Suresh Acharya, and officials of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and Nepal Airlines Corporation on Saturday.

Election Commission Secretary Gopinath Mainali said that after the discussions the concerned officials have been instructed to make arrangements for providing air tickets to the chief election officers, the election officers and other employees assigned on election duty, putting them in first priority.

Similarly, the Commission has issued directives to the bodies concerned to make arrangements for the timely delivery of election-related materials by air to various destinations. It also instructed for making special arrangements for operating regular and special flights to the hilly and mountainous regions if necessary.

The EC has stated that the Secretary at the Ministry has been instructed to assign a focal person at the airports for the entire election period to look after election-related matters and also to carry out overall monitoring of the activities.
