Election publicity materials still not removed

Gaighat, July 25

Political parties and their candidates have yet to remove the posters, banners and flexes among other materials used during local level elections in Triyuga Municipality of Udayapur even though the civic polls got over almost two months ago.

As per the election code of conduct, such publicity materials have to be removed by the parties concerned after elections. However, the major political parties and their candidates have not removed these materials yet.

The parties had placed the banners, flags, flexes among other things, during elections at Main Chowk, Pipalbot, BP Chowk and other places of the municipality. The materials have become eyesores in municipality.

Newly elected mayor Baldev Chaudhary of Triyuga Municipality from the CPN-UML had removed such materials from some places. Chaudhary removed these materials three days after election results were declared.

The municipality said that the election related materials have not been removed from some places. “I will remove them within days from the remaining places,” Chaudhary added. He said his office had deployed staffers to remove the publicity materials.

Guru Dhakal, a staff at Triyuga Municipality said the Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre and Rastriya Prajatantra Party have not removed any of the materials even though the municipality had asked them to do so time and again. Dhakal added that the municipality would deploy staffers to remove the materials if the parties ignored the municipality’s directive.

Social Worker Hiraman Mote said election materials had made the municipal areas dirty and had to be removed. “The parties were supposed to remove the materials just after elections,” he said.

Meanwhile, former district president of Nepali Congress Himal Karki said the candidates were busy with their own work after losing in the elections. “We will remove the materials within one or two days,” he added.
