Elephant safari resumes

SAURAHA: The agitating mahouts and their helpers have withdrawn their agitation following an 11-point agreement with hotel entrepreneurs on Saturday.

As per the agreement, the low-wage workers will be provided a minimum monthly salary of Rs 4,600 for their eight-hour-a-day duty, accident insurance of up to Rs 2 lakhs and permanent appointment for those to have served for 240 days. They will also be entitled to food, leave and other applicable rights.

The agitating workers padlocked the office of Regional Hotel Association and Elephant Management Cooperatives on Thursday. RHA President Haribhakta Ghimire said the mahouts had gone back to work following the agreement.
