‘Enforce minimum wage for working journalists’
Kathmandu, September 6
International Relations and Labour Committee of the Parliament issued directives to the government telling it to not renew the registration of media outlets if they are not paying minimum wage to working journalists.
The parliamentary panel issued directives after discussing the minimum wage issue with Minister of Information and Communications Surendra Karki, Minister of Labour and Employment Surya Man Gurung and President of Federation of Nepali Journalists Mahendra Bista.
The panel also issued a directive to the Ministry of Information and Communications to not give discounts in royalty and not provide any government facilities to erring media outlets.
It also told the line ministry to form a committee comprising representatives from media management, Press Council and Department of Labour to submit a report within two months regarding compliance with the provisions in the  Working Journalists’ Act, 1993, in Kathmandu Valley.
