Equal wage to be implemented in Makawanpur's rural municipality

HETAUDA: Manahari Rural Municipality in Makawanpur district has decided to implement equal wages for equal work irrespective of gender, on Friday.

The fourth village assembly of the rural municipality conducted under the leadership of rural municipality chair, Ek Raj Upreti, decided to implement equal wages for carrying out work of the same nature.

Earlier, a meeting had been held by the District Coordination Committee, Makawanpur with the chairs, vice-chairs and chief administrative officers of the 10 local levels in the district. The meeting led to the commitment to implement equal wages for men and women doing the same work in the district.

In line with this commitment, Manahari Rural Municipality, for the first time in Makawanpur, decided to implement the regulation through the village assembly.

Chair Upreti reiterated that the rural municipality moved ahead with the implementation of equal wages as specified in the law. "We are trying to implement what is already in the law. The regulation of equal wages has been passed by the village assembly as there has been inequality in the wages of men and women, especially those working in the sector of agriculture and construction.

Also discussed in the village assembly meeting were improvements and suggestions to various other acts and laws.
