Ethnic groups resent new carve-out bid
JHAPA: Federal Limbuwan State Council – an ethnic group active in the eastern hills – today objected to the UCPN-Maoist's recent declaration of the Kochila and Limbuwan states in the Eastern Region.
A press release of the group said it was deplorable act on the part of the Maoists. The Limbuwan group also termed it the conspiracy against an autonomous state it has been fighting for. The Maoists on December 11 declared the two states in Tehrathum and Jhapa districts. As per the Maoists' carving, the Kochila state comprises Morang, Sunsari and Jhapa districts while Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Tehrathum and Dhankuta fall under the Limbuwan.
The Limbuwan activists also said the declaration had ignored the historical background, social structure and the popular spirit in the region.
