Ethnic students shut East schools

PHIDIM: Classes in education institutions of all the districts east of Arun River has been affected owing to the three-day educational strike called by Students' Union aligned to Federal Limbuwan State Council today.

All colleges and private and community schools remained shut in Panchthar district today. All education institutions, including community and private schools, remained closed in Dhankuta district also.

Similarly, all education institutions remained closed in Jhapa, Tehrathum, Taplejung and Ilam districts.

The bandh enforcers have warned all to shut the educational institutions for three days. They have distributed copies of their list of demands in al educational institutions.

The Union called the bandh demanding that their cadre Manil Tamang, who was killed in Dhulabari Campus in a police firing during the Free Student Union election in March last year, be declared a martyr. They have also demanded Rs 1 million as compensation to the victim's family.

Tamang was shot while attempting to take ballot boxes under control demanding proportional representation in the students' body.

In a press release, Sagar Kerung, secretary of the Union, announced the strike yesterday.
