Ex-PM Khanal praises govt policy and programme

 

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML senior leader Jhalanath Khanal expressed his belief that the policy and programme presented by the government would contribute in strengthening democratic exercise to the local levels.

Taking part in the deliberations on the government policy and programme at Parliament today, the former priem minister said, "I welcome and support the policy and programme with a goal to hold local body election soon and spread democracy to villages and to people's level."

Khanal said the government policy and programme also envisioned transformation in the agriculture sector, which he termed as the base of Nepal's prosperity.

"The reconstruction work should move ahead in speed, this is people's demand, the policy and programmes have come in a right manner in all perspectives," Khanal said, adding "It is necessary to embark on a path of a three-pillar economy so as to achieve the goal of socialism."

He said it had also highlighted the subject of national consensus in current scenario. "It is necessary that all should remain cognizant of the fact that Nepal's interest lies in advancing its relations with China and India on basis of mutual interest and equity."
