Experts urge government to bring provisional budget
KATHMANDU: The economists have urged the government to comply with the election code of conduct before bringing a full-fledged budget prior to the second phase of local elections on June 14.
The experts have also advised the government to bring a provisional budget owing to the second phase of polls in remaining 461 local bodies in Province number 1, 2, 5 and 7.
Speaking at an interaction programme organised by the Reporters Club Nepal in the Capital on Friday, Dipendra Bahadur Chettri, Dilli Raj Khanal and Shankar Sharma were against the full-fledged budget in this juncture of time in the country.
Chettri drew the attention of the government about main opposition party and Election Commission's opinion about the budget and urged that the budget could be misused.
He also urged all the political parties to create uniformity in programmes and bring budget as per the requirement. He, however, clarified that the government should give continuity to the national pride projects.
He further said that the government is planning to allocate Rs 10 million in each 744 local units. He also said that the corruption would be minimised as the accountable local representatives have been elected in the local bodies.
Similarly, Dilli Raj Khanal said the government should not bring full-fledged budget before the second phase of local locals, he further said, however, the government should bring the full-fledged budget after the second phase of local polls on June 14.
He said that the constitution has given autonomous power to the local bodies and the economy should be restructured accordingly. He was optimistic that the development would take momentum as 40 per cent budget from the central would be allocated to the local level.
Likewise, Shankar Sharma has urged the government not to add new programme and projects instead focus on completing the existing National Pride Projects.
He also said that the government should give continuity to the existing programmes and should not stop the Multi Year Projects.
Sharma expressed happiness in the growth of Nepalese economy and urged all to focus on the implementation of policies.
Meanwhile, all the experts urged the government to appoint staff as soon as possible in the National Finance and Natural Resource Commission.
