Fairer sex bodies bat for rape victim

KATHMANDU: More than a dozen organisations working for women's right today demanded justice for Suntali Dhami, a police personnel raped by her own co-workers in Achham some three months back.

Issuing a joint press release, Women's Alliance for Peace, Power and Democracy and the Constituent Assembly, Informal Sector Service Center, Tewa, Women Security Pressure Group and many other organisations have protested government's insensitivity towards the case and demanded action against the culprits.

The statement further said that three out of six accused getting government's clean chit proved that government was insensitive. It said, "Such insensitivity of government shows that the recently passed bill against domestic violence and declaration of the year 2010 as 'Gender Violence Free year' is only a pretension of government that it cares for women's sufferings."

Meanwhile, they have warned they would seek justice from international level if she was not availed justice in the country.
