Farmers demand compensation as factories waste mixed at local stream destroys crop
RAUTAHAT: Hundreds of farmers have resorted to Rautahat District Administration Office demanding compensation as their paddy plantation have been destroyed by the poisonous chemicals erected by factories into a local stream during monsoon in the district.
Farmers have accused that the Jyoti distiller Industry and Shreeram Sugar Mill have mixed their poisonous chemicals erected from the plant into the swollen Jhar river taking advantage of flooded river.
The farmers have submitted a letter to the Rautahat District Administration Office demanding compensation as their crop have been destroyed by the waste erected by local factories into the stream.
Chief District Officer Uddav Bahadur Thapa has urged to sent the technical team to investigate into the matter and take actions if anyone is found to be involved in the malaise.
"Local farmers have come up with destroyed paddy plant to file complain against the factories," Thapa shared.
Farmers have claimed that the factories have mixed their hazardous waste into swollen Jhaj river in the district.
The farmers have also submitted their letter at the Rautahat District Agriculture Development Office and warned of halting traffic movement at Chandranighapur from 11 am tomorrow.
Earlier, the CDO had asked the Jyoti Distiller Industry, Baba Distiller Birta and Shreeram Sugar Mill to pay Rs 80 million compensation to the farmers after finding the waste erected from those factories were responsible in the destruction of the paddy crops.
However, the case is sub judice at the Appellate Court in Hetaunda in Makwanpur district.
