Federal govt apathetic towards disaster preparedness, says Jha

Rautahat, July 24

Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal Presidium member Anil Kumar Jha today said he had repeatedly raised the issue of controlling the Bagmati, Lalbakaiya and other rivers in the federal Parliament, but to no avail.

Jha inspected Rajdevi Rural Municipality’s Bramhapur, Basatpur Durga Bhagawati Rural Municipality’s Badarhawa and Matsari, and Gadhimai’s Laxmipur areas today after the Bagmati River triggered erosion in these places.

After inspecting the flood-ravaged areas, Jha said he had raised the issue of Bagmati’s spur, embankment repair, among others, more than 12 times in the Parliament.

“I urged the federal minister and the concerned ministry’s secretary to expedite river control, but my pleas went unheeded,” said Jha.

He said that the federal government should work to control the Bagmati and Lalbakaiya rivers.

He flayed the government for being apathetic towards checking the flood in the Bagmati River and saving the lives and property of the people living downstream.
