FSF-N opposed to use of army in polls

Kathmandu, April 28

The Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal today took serious exception to the government’s decision to mobilise the Nepali Army in local level elections.

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari yesterday granted permission to mobilise Nepal Army in the first phase of local level polls slated for May 14 on the recommendation of the government. “Use of army in internal affairs like local level polls will tarnish dignity of army,” reads the statement issued by the party. The party also demanded that the decision to mobilise army in the polls be withdrawn.

The FSF-N also objected to the government’s decision to hold local level elections in two phases. The party said the results of the first phase of elections could influence voters.
