First deputy-speaker ailing for yrs
DHARAN: Lila Shrestha Subba, the country's first deputy-speaker and former member of parliament, has long been hospitalised for treatment. But, her family's financial problem, compounded by the government apathy, have turned out to be the culprit of her worsening health conditions, every other day.
Subba, who was elected on CPN-UML ticket in 1994, lamented that despite spending the productive period of her life for the party, the party has been turning a blind at her ailments..
She is undergoing treatment at the B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Science Dharan since 1998.
"Many people used to come to me when I was the deputy speaker," she revealed. "But now, hardly anyone comes to see me and enquire about my health.''
She talked of harsh reality that people worshiped power.
According to her, her husband's meagre income
was not enough for the
treatment as a total of around Rs 15, 000 per month was required for treatment.
"I spent all my age for the nation; however, now I don't even have money for my treatment,'' she grieved. "The UML-led government is conspicuously neglecting my treatment now.''
She informed that Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal used to see her earlier, but not anymore after he became the PM.
Doctors involved in her treatment informed that she could not be cured fully as she was suffering from multiple ailments.
Her relative Parbat Limbu complained that the government
and the party alike has
neglected one, who spent her whole life for the nation.
