Five arrested for manhandling on-duty cops

Police arrested five persons for thrashing policemen during a fair in Badimalika Municipality, Bajura, yesterday.

The arrested have been identified as Amrit Bohora and Keshab Giri, who work at Rastriya Banijaya Bank, office attendant at Office of the attorney Hari Shankar Joshi, technician Gorakh Thapa of Badimalika Municipality and auxiliary mid-wife Dhani Thapa of Marie Stopes Centre. They manhandled the on-duty police personnel in drunken stupor.

Police made the arrested public on the premises of District Police Office, Bajura. Inspector Janak Dhungana said a case had been filed against all five under the law of the land. Dhungana said that the arrestees had thrashed Assistant Sub-inspector Man Bahadur Chand and other police constables when police tried to arrest them for their wild behaviour.

ASI Chand sustained injuries on his face while the police constables received bruises on different parts of his body.

Dr Tika Ram Rai at District Hospital, Bajura, said Chand had a cracked facial bone and he had been referred to another health facility for treatment. The municipality has put a complete ban on sale and consumption of alcohol for three days during the fair to avoid untoward incidents.
