Five held for giving fake details, taking cash relief

DHADING: Police have arrested as many as five persons on charge of furnishing fake details to obtain earthquake victim identity cards and securing cash relief from Katunje of Chhatredeurali VDC in Dhading.

Police arrested Sitaram Tamang, Kaila Tamang, Krishna Tamang, Sanu Tamang and Dipak Khakurel after locals registered a case against them, stating that they had obtained the relief amount of Rs 15,000 by presenting fake details.

District Natural Disaster Rescue and Relief Committee said the number of damaged households had exceeded by 60 per cent at most of the VDCs in the district. According to 2011 census, Lapa VDC has as many as 853 households. However, as many as 1,368 households have applied for the relief amount

of Rs 15,000. Though Ri VDC has 1,110 households, as many as 1,701 have asked for the cash relief.

Pramila Giri, Chhatredeurali VDC Secretary, said that cash relief distribution process was affected after 662 additional households came for relief against 1,666 households who pay the land revenue tax.

DNDRRC has received household numbers exceeding 25 per cent at 17 VDCs worst hit by the April 25 quake in the district.

Dhading CDO Basudev Ghimire said that trouble had arisen after the number of damaged households exceeded by 60 per cent. According to 2011 census, Dhading has 73,842 households. However, as many as 81,336 households have been reported as damaged by the quake in the district.

A team that reached Ri VDC has submitted a report of 1,701 destroyed houses to District Natural Disaster Rescue and Relief Committee , while the 2011 census shows that the VDC has only 1,110 households. District Natural Disaster Rescue and Relief Committee has made public a report, stating that 81,336 houses were fully destroyed while 3,091 were partially damaged in the quake.
