Five held for Tikapur violence

Dhangadi, August 25

Kailali Police today arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in the killing of seven police personnel, including Senior Superintendent of Police Laxman Neupane, and a two-year-old boy in Tikapur, Kailali, yesterday.

Mohan Chapagain, who replaced Raj Kumar Shrestha as Kailali CDO today, said the police nabbed Raj Kumar Kathariya, Harinarayan Chaudhary, Dil Bahadur Chaudhary, Ram Kumar Kathariya and Sundarlal Kathariya of Munuwa from their houses. Chapagain said the detainees were kept at the district police office and investigation was under way.

A meeting of the district security committee held today declared nine VDCs and Tikapur municipality riot-hit zones and deployed the Nepali Army to bring the situation under control.

Kailali’s Assistant CDO Uday Bahadur Singh said security had been tightened at Tikapur, Manowa, Johsipur, Durgauli, Dhansingh, Naryanpur, Tathariya, Khilad, Bhajan and Bahauniya after declaring these places riot-hit zones.

DAO lifted curfew in Dhangadi and Attariya but said the curfew would be clamped from 11:00am till 6:00pm tomorrow.
