Five injured as families brawl over eve-teasing

RAUTAHAT: Five persons sustained injuries with three said to be in a critical condition after a brawl involving kin of teenage girls distressed with eve teasing while en route to school and families of accused boys broke out at Gaur Municipality on Sunday.

Families of girls from Gaur municipality, Ward-6 had gone to neighbouring Ward-5 to confront guardians of boys who were accused of eve-teasing at a suspension bridge at Barhawa River.

The confrontation ended in a brawl that left three persons identified as Badami Sah (50), Sikarchan Ram (28) and Anil Sah (24), with head injuries.

Following the clash, the injured were taken to District Hospital in Gaur and later referred to Birgunj for further treatment.

According to doctors, out of the injured, Badami who suffered a fractured skull is serious while the health condition of Ram and Sah is improving.

Moreover, youth leader Shambu Shah of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) had to come to the rescue of the injured as their family reel with poverty and have little or no money for treatment. Leader Shah gave a financial assistance of Rs51,000, according to kin of the injured.

Meanwhile, police arrested the main accused of eve-teasing, Jitendra Kushwaha for investigation while a hunt for other suspects is on, Superintendent of Police Kedar Dhakal informed.
