Five rape cases
JHAPA: At least five cases of rape have been reported in the past one-and-half-month in Ilam district. According to District police Office, three minors and two women, including a mentally retarded, were raped during the period. According to complaints lodged with the police, the victims are said to be between nine to 42 years. Police have arrested Furba Elmu, 42, of Pashupatinagar-4, Birendra Limbu, 35, of Barnot-3, Ganesh Man Mukhiya, 22, of Soyang-3, Bir Bahadur Tamang of Jirmale and Yuba Raj Limbu, 19, of Ekatappa for their alleged involvement in rape. As many as 22 rape cases were registered with police last year whereas, the number was 25 a year ago, said Ishwor Thapa, inspector at DPO Ilam. According to statistics, Girls below 16 years are at high risk, especially in rural areas, said inspector Thapa.
