Five voting centres in Jhapa district without male staffers

Jhapa, December 6

As many as five voting centres in Jhapa will have only female staffers for the second round of provincial and parliamentary elections tomorrow.

Female staffers have been deployed at different voting centres of Constituencies No 2, 3 and 5. Chief Returning Officer’s Office, Jhapa, said election officers, supporting staffers, security personnel and volunteers deployed at some voting centres were all female.

Two voting centres of Birtamod Municipality in Constituency No 2 have all female staffers. Namuna Niroula has been deployed as the returning officer at the municipality’s Ka centre while Sunita Acharya has been deployed as the returning officer at Kha centre of the municipality.

Similarly, Gita Rai has been deployed as the returning officer at Mechi Stadium voting centre Ka of Bhadrapur Municipality while Ambika Shrestha was deployed as the returning officer at Kha centre of the municipality.

As many as 896 voters will be casting their ballots from the centre led by Rai while 846 voters will casting their ballots from the centre led by Shrestha. Likewise, Jamuna Karki has been deployed as the returning officer at Damak Municipality centre in Constituency No 5.

The District Election Office said 7,600 staffers had been deployed in Jhapa.

The office urged voters to cast ballots without any fear. Chief Returning Officer Khila Raj Regmi said tight security was put in place for carrying ballot boxes to vote counting centres.
