Flood causes damage to Fish Super Zone estimated at Rs 500mln in Bara

BIRGUNJ: The Fish Super Zone based in Bara has suffered damage estimated Rs 500 million due to inundation by floods triggered by incessant rainfall in the past few weeks in major parts of Tarai.

The Zone designated under the project implemented under the Prime Minister Agriculture Modernisation Programme witnessed the heavy loss after 700 metric tonnes of fish were washed away in the flood.

Chief of Prime Minister Agriculture Modernisation Project Unit Bara, Yugal Kishor Tiwari said that the fish ponds spread in 700 hectares of land were damaged leading to such huge loss.

Likewise, the task of pond preparation in and around Simraungadh, Kachorba, Bhagawanpur, Biloni, Petpari and surrounding areas were also affected due to the heavy flood.

Farmers claimed that the commercial fish farming was seriously affected due to heavy rainfall and flooding in Bara.

Meanwhile, the farmers have urged the government to provide due compensation to them as they were at the receiving end after a heavy loss from the flooding.
