FNJ expresses concern
Kathmandu, March 2:
Violation of media rights continued across the country in February, the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) said in a monthly report today.
Journalists were subjected to threats, harassment, intimidation and attacks, the FNJ said in the report.
“Journalists are attacked by different agitating groups, Maoist cadres, cadres of political parties and security personnel,” the FNJ report said, adding that the practice of threatening media to write news in favour of various parties is increasing. “In the month of February, 15 journalists were attacked by various groups and four journalists received threats for writing news.” The report has also dwelt on the attack on mediapersons by activists of the Madheshi Janadhikar Forum.
In the attack, two vehicles of mediapersons were damaged, the report said. Twenty-eight dailies and weeklies stalled their publication during the Tarai movement due to insecurity and lack of printing materials, according to the report.
