Food, clothing distributed to Chepang families in Dhading

DHADING: Various food items and clothing were provided to financially deprived Chepang families in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-2 of Dhading district on Thursday.

Sukumaya Foundation, in coordination with Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality and Shanti Nepal, distributed the materials to 35 households belonging to Chepang community in Brusbang yesterday.

During the programme, the foundation distributed food items to the families and provided clothing to children below 12 years of age. The distribution programme was attended by Chairperson of the foundation Sukumaya Moktan, Secretary Puspha Khadka, and Tanka Bahadur Thapa, ward chair of the Beninghat Rorang Rural Municipality-2.

The distribution was organised to provide some relief to the Chepang community of Brusbang who live in extreme poverty and cannot afford to celebrate Dashain festival.

Brusbang — located on a mountaintop — is one of the most remote Chepang settlement in Dhading district. People in the settlement are suffering from scarcity of drinking water and have to walk three hours daily to fetch water.
