Forces opposed to left unity may create chaos, says CPN-MC chair

Kathmandu, February 23

CPN-Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal said forces that were against the recent unification of communist parties could even assassinate political leaders to create chaos.

Addressing a programme in Kathmandu, he said those elements could use any leftist faction to assassinate political leaders. Dahal said left unity  got public mandate in recent elections and there could be extreme polarisation for and against the left unity.

He said that elements, which could not tolerate its political defeat, could conspire to kill political leaders.  “Such incidents have happened in Nepal in the past during Rana period. Royal family members were killed and Madan Bhandari was also assassinated,” he added. He said he would not backtrack from left unity.

Dahal also said the unified party would become the largest communist party in the Nepal’s history. “It will have both challenges and opportunities,” he added.
