Foreign Minister Mahat bats for timely local polls

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, has urged all not to doubt local elections being held on the slated date of May 14.

During an interaction organized by Nepal Students' Union on 'Aware youths for robust democracy', in Kathmandu, on Monday, Minister Mahat reiterated that the aggressive preparations for the elections would help wipe out the doubt.

Minister Mahat, who is also the leader of the Nepali Congress, directed the party cadres and local level leaders to focus people's service, so that the party would emerge victorious.

On the occasion, senior journalist Purushottam Dahal suggested that the NC could go to election with the programmes of federal republic and socio-economic transformation.

Similarly, Chairman of Tarun Dal, Jeet Jung Basnet, said the NC has played a significant role for long time to consolidate democracy in the country.

Meanwhile, NSU Chairman Nain Singh Mahar said there was no option before the political parties but to hold the election on the slated date to protect the political achievements achieved so far.
