POKHARA: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) arrested an Assistant Forest Officer red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 in Pokhara on Tuesday.
Identified as Ganesh Bahadur Karki, the government official, who was stationed at Area Forest Office in Arba, had allegedly demanded the kickback for a project on Kahu-Bhalam-Phulbari road construction.
The anti-graft body swung into action after the road construction project sought its help.
Karki was arrested from a restaurant in New Road where he had asked the stakeholders to bring the money and collected it.
The project had asked the Kaski District Forest Office to let it use stones that would be excavated from the road construction site. The project is sponsored by Pokhara Metropolitan City.
Referring to preliminary investigation, the chief of CIAA's Pokhara-based Regional Office, Janaki Ballav Bhattarai, said Karki allegedly sought the kickback from the road construction project to advance its application over the use of stones.
