Four succesfully rescued from collapsed Arun III tunnel after 39 hours

BHOJPUR: Four persons were successfully rescued after 39 hours when they got trapped as the under-construction tunnel of Arun III Hydropower Project collapsed in Sankhuwasabha district on Friday night.

Pradeep Shahi (32) of Siuna Rural Municipality-4 in Kalikot, Prem Pariyar (44) of Chandranath Municipality-1 in Jumla, Budhan Munda (55) from Jharkhand, India, and Nanda Kishore (45) from Bihar, India were trapped in the tunnel collapse that occurred at 8:45 pm on Friday at Phaksinda of Makalu Rural Municipality.

Shahi and Pariyar are manual workers while Munda is dozer operator and Nanda Kishore an electronic engineer for the project, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shyam Kumar Saru Magar.

The rescued workers are in good health condition and have been sent to the Khandbari-based District Hospital for the medical checkup, informed the police.
