Four villages in Banke inundated again
Nepalgunj, September 1:
Four villages in Holiya VDC of Banke district have been flooded again, leaving 322 families displaced.
Water entered 2 km into human habitation after the Rapti river overflowed. Chitaipurwa, Simrahawa, Tepri and Ghodenpurwa villages were transformed into a lake. The swollen river swept away locals’ houses.
The displaced families were sheltering in the Khadaicha primary school and cowsheds. The flood water began entering the villages two days ago and possibility of draining the water or diverting it back into the river has minimised. Nepal Army teams were engaged in relief and rescue work. Army, armed police and civil teams managed to save some belongings of the affected people.
Teams of the DAO, Red Cross, natural disaster cell, community forest users committee will begin rehabilitating the displaced people from tomorrow.
