Fuel crisis jeopardises crusher industries

Damauli, November 15

Acute fuel shortage caused by the blockade at Nepal-India border has driven crusher industries on the verge of closure in Tanahun.

Baburam Sunar, Proprietor of Dhorbarahi Agrovet from Chhang VDC-9 said that fuel shortage had made it very difficult to operate crusher industries. Sunar, who established his crusher industry in 100 ropani land, said fuel scarcity had made it very hard to operate the industry.

According to Sunar, boulders, chips, and sand produced from his industry were being supplied to Pokhara, Gorkha and Parbat, among other places.

Crusher industry operators complained that the devastation caused by the deadly earthquake of April 25 had already dealt a severe blow to the industry as construction of houses had gone down. Some crusher industry operators bemoaned that the earthquake and blockade had made it hard for them to pay loan to financial institutions and banks.

Sunar’s crusher Industry is worth Rs 220 million and has provided jobs to 105 people.

Senior industry officer of Cottage Development Committee, Tanahun, Shiv Shankar Baniya, however, said that no crusher industry had applied saying they were facing trouble operating the industry. Tanahun is home to two dozen crusher industries.
