Gadhimai festival starts

Preparation for Gadimai festival, which takes place every five years at Mahagadhimai Municiplaity, Bara, is over. The festival lasting a month draws hundreds of thousands of devotees.

The festival is known as Kumbha mela of Tarai.

Gadhimai Festival Committee estimated over 80,000 devotees this year. Around 60,000 devotees had participated the festival last time.

The festival starts from Mangshir 1. Mangshir 17 and 18 are special days of the festival. Gadhimai temple priest Mangal Chaudhary said with special puja, five sacrifices will be offered at the temple on Mangshir 17 while public will sacrifice goats and buffaloes, among other animals, to the temple the next day.
