GMC lockout ends, classes yet to resume

Pokhara, March 19

Though the agitating students have ended their lockout at Gandaki Medical College in Pokhara, regular classes and treatment services have not resumed yet.

Students had padlocked the college on February 1 citing the extra amount it had charged them in violation of the government-fixed fee structure.

One-and-a-half months later, they ended the lockout of all offices except the administration at the college on Saturday looking forward to resumption of regular classes. The agitating students also clarified that they were still agitating, but had opted to open the college as they had entered a legal process to get their demands met.

The agitating students have sought the return of the extra amount charged by the college administration as admission fees and under other headings.

They have lodged a fraud case against 11 persons including the college operators and staff, claiming they had collected Rs 500 million illegally.

Though the students had also sought formation of a working committee by incorporating the college operators, this too hasn’t happened.

The District Police Office on March 6 had issued arrest warrant against the 11 persons.
