Gandaki province pays tribute to Gharti

Pokhara, December 15

Gandaki Province Assembly Secretariat organised a condolence ceremony to pay tributes to Provincial Assembly member Tek Bahadur Gharti last night. The condolence was held at night as Gharti’s body was brought from New Delhi late in the evening.

Gharti elected to Gandaki Provincial Assembly from Baglung Constituency-2(KHA) had died while undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on Thursday morning. After his death, Gharti was brought in ambulance to Pokhara. The body was airlifted to Baglung this morning.

Province Governor Baburam Kunwar, Chief Minister Prithivi Subba Gurung, Speaker Netranath Adhikari, ministers and PA members were present at the condolence ceremony.

Governor Kunwar, Chief Minister Gurung and Speaker Adhikari had draped Gharti’s body with national flag.

Speaker Adhikari expressed sorrow over the loss of a youth leader. Gandaki Province Rastriya Janamorcha parliamentary party leader Krishna Thapa had spoken about Gharti’s political life and family background.

Gharti, who had been ill since long, was admitted to Phewa City Hospital in Pokhara for four days in the third week of November.

He was later treated in Kathmandu for 17 days after he complained complication in his liver due to jaundice. After his condition deteriorated, Gharti was taken to New Delhi in air ambulance.

Gharti’s final rites were performed today. He is survived by his wife, four daughters and two sons. He was elected to the PA with 11,884 votes in the last provincial polls.

With the demise of Gharti, the Gandaki Province has just 58 members. Dipak Manange elected to the province from Manang KHA is in jail after he was convicted by the court.
