Gang kills four of a family in Kapilvastu

Kapilvastu, April 19:

Four members of a family were killed in cold-blooded by an unidentified gang at Chetaradehi in Dhanukauli VDC-9 of Kapilvastu district last night.

The gang killed Dhundkal Kharbind (50), his wife and two daughters, inspector at the Kapilvastu District Police Office Hari Baduwal said, adding that the bodies were found packed in two bags this morning.

Police said the bodies of Dhundkal and his second wife Bindbasi (48) were found in his old house and the bodies of his two daughters — Uma (16) and Tarawati (10) — were found in his new house. The two houses are located in the same locality, some 400 metres apart. Dhundkal had two wives, five daughters and a son.

Dhundkal’s three-year-old daughter, Guchi, who was in the old house, however, survived the incident. His first wife, son and a daughter also survived the incident, as they were not in the house when the incident occurred.

Entire village was today mourning the killing of the four members of the family, which was financially not so well off.

“As Dhundkal was injured in the chest, the killing may have been pre-planned,” police said. Police suspected that the murderers might have killed Dhundkal’s wife and daughters after rape.

Initial medical examination of the bodies have revealed that poisoning might have killed them and the women might have been raped, medical superintendent at Taulihawa-based Prithvi Bir Hospital Ananta Kumar Sharma said. “I have recommended that the bodies be sent to Kathmandu for further lab tests.”

SP Milan Basnet said further investigation into the case and search for the culprits was on.
