Govt has failed to bring in foreign investment, says Dahal
Birgunj, August 7
Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal today said that the incumbent government had failed to create an environment conducive to bring in foreign investment.
Addressing the national gathering of District and Municipal-level Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised by FNCCI in Birgunj, Dahal held foreign investment could not be lured until security was guaranteed for their capital and freedom to make profit guaranteed.
“Foreign investment will not come unless we end the practice of giving bribery at every table and do away with redundant administrative procedures,” Dahal added.
Likening investment to the colour of a cat, Dahal argued that just as a cat kills a mouse irrespective of its colour, the investment would have to expedite economic growth. He claimed that China had achieved swift economic growth and progress by attracting foreign investment.
Chair Bhawani Rana of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry accused the government of being illiberal towards the private sector.
She complained that the government was treating entrepreneurs as culprits.
