SALLERI: The health insurance scheme introduced across the country by the previous government a year ago is bearing fruits in Solukhumbu with the partaking of total 899 people covered by the scheme in about two months’ time. The scheme came into effect in the district from October 11.

Under the system which is expected to end a huge financial burden on ordinary people in getting health services, there is a provision that the government would bear premium for poor people, completely disabled, single woman, senior citizens and orphans.

Those who enrolled in the scheme can get health services from their convenient health institutions like the Phaflu-based District Hospital, primary health centres in Sotang and Salyan, Okhaldhunga Community Hospital, Dolakha-based Jiri Hospital, said the Social Health Security Development Committee, Teku, Kathmandu.

Likewise, work is underway to employ a volunteer to register an insurance holder in each ward in the district, said a concerned authority, adding that 14 registered volunteers have been selected for the same purpose.
