Govt immersed in scams, says Bhattarai

Dhangadi, March 27

Naya Shakti Party-Nepal Coordinator Baburam Bhattarai has accused the government led by Nepal Communist Party (NCP) of being immersed in scandals.

Addressing a mass meeting in Dhangadi of Kailali today, the NSP-N chief cited a number of recent scandals including the Ncell tax fraud, bullion smuggling and shoddy aircraft purchase deals and noted the government’s failure to bring persons behind those high-profile scams to book.

“The government has apparently failed to take action against the corrupt, which is unfortunate,” Bhattarai remarked.

Further, Bhattarai also scoffed at the government’s failure to deliver on its promises. “The government that rose to power by making tall promises of prosperity has apparently failed to make good on its own words, which has made people frustrated,” opined the former prime minister.

The NSP-N leader explained that the recent overtures of his party to the public was part of the party’s campaign for improved democracy.

“In fact, the so-called communists have defamed the entire communist movement and reduced the present democracy to formality only. In this backdrop, our recent campaign to meet the general public is for an improved democracy, which is a refined form of democracy with people’s participation,” he remarked.
