Govt achieved historic feat in lawmaking, says Minister Dhakal

Pokhara, June 22

Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Bhanubhakta Dhakal today said that the government had achieved great success in terms of enacting laws.

Speaking at a conference organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association in Pokhara, Minister Dhakal said his ministry had made 16 laws related to fundamental rights and had amended 165 laws. He said the Parliament had passed 36 bills during the winter session and made around 200 laws. The minister expressed dissatisfaction with the activities of some people who created hindrances in the process of enacting laws, from the street. He flayed the opposition parties for spreading rumour that KP Sharma Oli-led government was heading towards authoritarianism.

At the programme, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) leader Subash Chandra Nembang said the constitution could be amended as per the need of the time.

“The constitution is a document of compromise. It can be amended to incorporate new provisions,” he said.

Likewise, Gandaki Province Governor Baburam Kunwar said there was lack of sound coordination among the three tiers of the government.
