Govt ‘not doing enough’ to free abducted Sarlahi CDO
Kathmandu, April 11:
Son of abducted Sarlahi CDO Bodh Raj Adhikary, Yuba Raj, today accused the government of not paying serious attention to sanction the release of his father. The Maoists had abducted Adhikary from Malangwa, the district headquarters of Sarlahi, after launching an attack on the headquarters. At least 10 security personnel were killed in the attack.
“The government has not acted seriously to sanction the release of my father,” he told this daily, adding all family members have been surprised by the government behaviour.
“I had thought the government would contact family members of the abducted officials and inform them about the efforts it has been taking to sanction their release. The government has done nothing like that,” he added.
“Neither the government nor the Maoists have contacted family members about father’s abduction,” he said.
“Through the media, we came to know about the Maoists’ condition for the release of my father. They said he will be released if five of their cadres are released,” he said, adding it was wrong on the part of the Maoists to put condition for the release of his father. Immediately after abduction, the Nepal Bar Association and human rights activists had urged the Maoists to release the chief district officer.
