Govt Attorney Office records statements of TV host Lamichhane, two others

CHITWAN: The Government Attorney Office today recorded statements of TV host Rabi Lamichhane and two others in connection to the death of journalist Shalikram Pudasaini.

The statements of accused Lamichhane, Yuvraj Kandel and Asmita Karki (Ruku) were recorded in the Government Attorney Office of Chitwan district.

On the basis of recorded statements of the accused persons, the court will decide if they will be remanded in custody or a process would begin to file a case against the trio, District Police Office Spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ek Narayan Koirala said.

The supporters of the current affairs television host Lamichhane have continued to stage demonstrations in front of the DPO demanding his immediate release since his arrest on Thursday. Likewise, the protesters also staged demonstrations at Chaubiskothi Chowk in the district, today.

Police clashed with the protesters after the latter tried to enter into the prohibited area this afternoon. Following the clash, police rounded up eight protesters, according to DSP Koirala.

Section 185 of the Criminal Code Act, which was endorsed a year ago, has criminalised abetting suicide. Anyone found guilty of the crime can face jail sentence of five years or Rs 50,000 fine, or both.

Pudasaini used to work for News24 Television channel with Lamichhane and Kandel before joining Mountain Television some two months back. Pudasaini was associated with the Mountain Television until his death.

Journalist Pudasaini was found dead hanging from a ceiling fan inside a hotel room in Chitwan at around 10:00 pm on August 5.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Nepali Journalists has called on the concerned authorities for a fair investigation into the death of Pudasaini.
