Govt can accomodate Maoists:Rijal

DHULIKHEL: Minister for Culture Dr Minendra Rijal today said the Unified CPN-Maoist was roving after quitting the government in haste.

Urging the Maoists to be patient, the minister said that the Maoists could be accommodated in the government if they root for politics of consensus and agreement.

“They (Maoists) should not to opt for frenzied activity and continue issuing threats to grab power as there is space for them in the government,” Rijal said.

While speaking at a tea reception organised by Nepali Congress Constituency No 2 in connection to Dashain festival here in Panauti of Kavre, he also said that the Maoists’ slated protests after the Tihar festival would not affect the government whatsoever.

On Saturday, the Maoist’s chairman Prachanda

had warned that they would launch massive protests after Tihar with the consent of the UN if political parties failed to forge consensus by then. Minister Rijal conceded that challenges were lying on the way while moving ahead for drafting the new constitution.

The minister also pledged government assistance to the organisers of the Makar Mela which is organised in Panauti every 12 years.
