Govt officer beaten up over contract

Dhading, August 14:

Labourers of a government-owned sand mine and contractors thrashed Local Development Officer (LDO) of Dhading district Ganesh Pandey today following a dispute.

After primary treatment at a Nepal Army hospital in Baireni, Pandey was sent to Kathmandu for further treatment.

Pandey was thrashed while he was in Mastar of Baireni village development committee with representatives of political parties to discuss the running of the state-owned mine.

An all-party meeting held a few days ago had decided to bar local contractors from running the mine. The contractors and district development committee were at loggerheads since then. The team had reached Mastar to settle the case.

Demanding that they be allowed to run the mine, contractors and labourers obstructed the Naubise-Mugling section of the Prithvi Highway from 11 am to 4:30 pm.

Protesting the attack, employees of local bodies staged a pen-down in VDC offices and the DDC office.
