Govt, police to be quizzed on ‘rape’ row
KATHMANDU:National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) expressed its concern about the release of three police personnel who allegedly gang-raped a woman colleague in Banke.
The NHRC said it had been preparing to seek explanations from the government, Nepal Police and the Office of the Attorney General over the release of the police personnel. “We will seek explanation from the government authorities on why they were released,” said Gauri Pradhan, Commissioner and Spokesperson, NHRC. The NHRC convicted them of being involved in the gang rape in Dailekh Police Office on October 11.
The government authorities had released the accused stating that no evidence were found against them. “This is an serious violation of the NHRC recommendation,” Pradhan said, adding. “We found evidence that they were involved in the offence.” Making public its report on Sunday, the NHRC had recommended the government to book them. The constitutional rights body had recommended them to sack from job.
