Govt policies okayed

Kathmandu, July 3:

A committee of all-party ministers today endorsed programmes and policies of the government after last minute changes were effected in them.

The government policies and programmes will now be presented in the cabinet meeting tomorrow for endorsement.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala will then present it in the parliament the same day.

All ministers except for those from the Nepali Congress (NC) had adversely reacted to the draft of the policies, which was distributed among ministers representing the eight political parties yesterday.

This had compelled the Prime Minister to leave the matter to a loose group of ministers to come up with a consensus today.

“We sat down and thrashed up a consensus on the document which is now ready,” said Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Rajendra Mahato.

He said priority has been given to the constituent assembly election and building of a new Nepal.

Other aspects mentioned in the document are reconstruction of the infrastructure which had been destroyed in the insurgency and rehabilitation of the displaced people.

The document also duly encourages small and cottage industry.
