Govt recalls Kanchanpur CDO amid violent clashes

KATHMANDU: Amid the ongoing clashes that ensued after police allegedly paraded a mentally unstable person as prime suspect in the rape and murder of 13-year-old girl, government has recalled Chief District Officer from Kanchanpur on Thursday.

The government has deputed Taranath Adhikhari as the new CDO after withdrawing Kumar bahadur Khadka from the post.

Likewise, State Police has sent Senior Superintendent of Police Bikram Chand to investigate the shooting incident which left 8 persons including 2 police personnel injured, today.

Meanwhile, the local administration has clamped curfew in the area in a bid to stop violent clashes.

Provincial govt calls for calm, forms investigation committee

Citing public unease in the region, the provincial government of Province 7 has called for calm among all the locals in Kanchanpur.

Likewise, the government has formed a five member committee led by Joint-Secretary of Department of Prison Management Hari Prasad Mainali to probe into the murder and rape of 13-year-old girl in Kanchanpur.
