Govt trying to centralise power, says Paudel

Sindhuli, March 23

Nepali Congress senior leader Ramchandra Paudel has accused the government of centralising power and putting democracy at risk.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Nepal Press Union in Sindhuli, leader Paudel claimed the government had proven that it was compete failure within a year of its formation. The government’s tendency to own big projects and military power has put democracy at risk, he added.

The NC leader also accused the government of failing to address issues related to peace, security, good governance, development and prosperity. According to him, it was wrong to ban the Communist Party of Nepal led by Netra Bikram Chand and the government should reconsider the decision. He was of the view that issues that could undermine nationality and democracy should not be taken to referendum.

Paudel said his party would launch ‘Madhes Dialogue Campaign’. On a different note, he said that the Nepali Congress had failed to play the role of effective opposition and ending factionalism in the party was his priority at the moment. “If time demands, I am ready to take responsibility of party leadership.”
