GPK for high-level panel to lead govt

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) president Girija Prasad Koirala today said that he had made a proposal to chairman of the Unified CPN-Maoist Prachanda to form a high-level mechanism of major parties to run the government and to take he peace process to a logical conclusion on the basis of consensus.

He hoped that the UCPN-M would be positive towards his proposal.

Speaking to journalists at his residence in Maharajgunj, he said that he was ready to lead such a mechanism. “The mechanism comprising political leaders will resolve any differences on the issue of running the government and the peace process,” Koirala said.

He said that there were no alternatives to unity, cooperation and consensus to take the peace process to a logical end.

He urged the UCPN-M and other political parties to take India, China and America into confidence instead of criticising them regarding the nation’s internal issues.
