GPK renews call to defer NC meet

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala today re-directed the party's Central Committee (CC) members to postpone the Mahasamiti meeting slated to commence on October 31 in Birgunj. President Koirala called an informal CC meeting at his private residence in Maharajgunj for the purpose.

Koirala is presently disinterested to hold the Mahasamiti meeting while most CC members are bent on making it happen.

According to NC spokesperson Arjun Narsingh KC, most CC members reasoned that the meeting was a must to amend the party statute and to discuss crucial contemporary issues.

Koirala clarified that he proposed the delay in order to keep the upcoming General Convention (GC) without dispute and added it would be impractical to hold Mahasamiti meeting and the GC in the same year. He wanted the GC without any controversy also because leadership would be handed over to the second generation leaders following it.

CC members also sought clarification from Koirala about his visit to former secretary Lokman Singh Karki's residence on Sunday and his secret talk with Maoist chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Koirala replied that he had gone there only to attend a religious function.
