Health posts in Doti district face drug shortage

DIPAYAL: Most of the government health posts in Doti district have been facing shortage of essential medicines.

Due to sheer negligence of the District Health Office and concerned stakeholders, essential medicines in the health posts could not be transported on time, adding challenges to the treatment of people.

According to Hem Bahadur Bogati, in-charge of the Tikhatara Health Post, health posts in the district is even facing shortage of most demanding and common medicines like ORS packets (Jeevan Jal), saline water,' and 'iron tablets'.

“We have been treating patients by taking medicines from ‘buffer store’, Bhisma Raj Pandey, Health Assistant of the Durgamandu Health Post said.

With the change in weather, 60 to 70 patients visit the health post on a daily basis, he added.

Pandey further informed that they have been forced to send patients to medical stores to buy essential medicines after the ‘buffer store’ also faced shortage of medicines.

Some of the medicines brought with the help of VDC are being used to treat the patients in the health post, Bhakta Bahadur BK, in-charge of the Durgamandu Health Post informed.

Likewise, Bhumirajmandu Health Post is also bearing the same problem.

The problem has surfaced in the health posts after the Regional Medical Store, Dhangadhi, delayed to deliver the medicines on time, Deepak Bohara, storekeeper at the District Health Post, Doti shared.

Bohora further informed that medicines provided by different non-governmental organisations are also not sufficient to meet the demand.

Ramsawartha Yadav, Head of District Health Office, Doti, however, informed medicines will be delivered in all the health posts at the earliest.
