Heavy rain affects transport services in Bhojpur

Bhojpur, June 23

Locals in Bhojpur have been facing a hard time after road as well as air transportation services were halted due to heavy rainfall in the district.

The district dwellers were compelled to return home without reaching their destinations after the Leguwa-Bhojpur road section along the Hile-Bhojpur-Naradmani Thulung auxiliary highway was obstructed due to heavy rainfall. Flights are also irregular and often get cancelled. Local passengers complained that they had to walk on the muddy road to reach the district headquarters.

Only two buses out of eight have been providing services from Bhojpur to Dharan on a daily basis due to the rough and slushy road. “One bus left for Dharan at 4:30am and another bus left for the same destination at 5:45am today,” said Mahesh Rai of Joint Bus Entrepreneurs’ Association.

He said buses from Dharan could not reach Bhojpur due to unfavourable road condition. “But we have been sending two buses to Dharan on a daily basis despite some difficulties,” he informed.

Transport Entrepreneurs said the road section became muddy after soil was piled up during the expansion and black topping of the road along the Leguwa-Bhojpur road section.

Similarly, air services have also been halted in the district due to unfavourable weather condition.

Passengers are returning home from the airport as the flights of Nepal Airlines Corporation to Biratnagar and Kathmandu have been cancelled for four days in a row. “The flight schedule is disrupted almost daily and cancellations are common,” said a passenger.

Meanwhile, Tara Airlines resumed its flights from Bhojpur to Kathmandu from today.
